Weather conditions: |
| Spring was the latest in a period 1994-1999, with a snowstorm on 18-19 June resulting in a complete snowcover. Summer was relatively warm and dry, without snowfalls.

Breeding conditions:

Arctic Foxes were not recorded during bird breeding season. Solitary pairs of Pomorine and Arctic Skuas, and Rough-legged Buzzards nested within the study area of 100 sq.km; Long-tailed Skuas had same relatively low density as in other years. Rare wandering Snowy Owls appeared only in August. Wader nesting was substantially delayed: Dunlin, normally one of the earliest breeders, initiated clutches in late June only, while other species did it in early July. Nomadic wader species (Pectoral Sandpiper, Ruff and phalaropes) had lower density than in early season of 1995. Nest success was high and fell in the range of 66 to 89% for common wader species, due to low nest depredation by Arctic Foxes. A unique for the season reason of clutch loss was trampling by reindeers that delayed migration at one month and remained in the study area till late July.

Rodent dynamics:
|
| Siberian and Collared Lemmings were met at a ratio of 9:1, and had the highest numbers for the period 1994-99. They were the most common during snowmelt in late June - early July, but continued to be met few times during a day by each observer till the end of July.
